Alumni Requests

February 22, 2008

Dear Alumnus/a:

For over twenty years, the Governor’s School of New Jersey has inspired and motivated our state’s most talented students in a wide range of subjects, in many cases sending them on to careers in that field.  Unfortunately, Governor's School was cut from the state budget in 2006.  Since then the program has had to raise private funds to run.

This year, we are still far short of our goal, and hence we have had to cut the programs’ budgets drastically with a difficult trade-off: accept fewer scholars, or shorten the number of weeks.  Programs like Sciences need a minimum length for projects, so they will run for three weeks but with far fewer students.  Others, like Arts, chose to take the full 100 students, but for just one week.  Both sad outcomes clearly diminish the scholar experience.

But there is hope.  If we raise enough funds by acceptance time at the end of March, the Governor’s Schools can take more scholars and/or lengthen the programs again.

If you think back to how much those four weeks of Governor’s School meant to you, you see why it is critical to give these new scholars the same life-changing experience.  We hope you will consider donating either to your program or to the Governor’s Schools in general.  Every gift of $1000 enables another student to attend.

Donations are fully tax-deductible.  Please make out your check to The Governor’s School of New Jersey, and if you wish, earmark for a specific school in the memo line.  Checks may be sent to:
