  Are you passing us a word to search for, or do we just print out every word
  in the document (like the previous assignment)?

Like the previous assignment.

  Is the "total" a total of every word, or just the unique words?

You probably want to review the fourth item in the list given in the Problem
Section of the assignment page, the item that begins "total is the..."
