The arithmetic of passing.

The cumulative grade for 305 is a composite of 10 grades, 5 for tests and 5 for
programming assignments. (Each programming assignment grade is the sum of the
grades for parts a and b of the assignment.) Because there's no curve in this
class, each test and assignment grade contributes a tenth to the cumulative
grade.

The lowest possible passing cumulative grade at the end of the semester is
73.3, resulting in a C. There are two tests and two programming assignments
left. A 100 for each of the remaining grades contributes 40 points to the
final cumulative grade. The absolute minimum passing current cumulative grade
is 73.3 - 40 = 33.3; any current cumulative grade less than 33.3 can't possibly
lead to passing 305 this semester.

Remember that 33.3 is the minimum passing current cumulative grade assuming all
remaining test and assignment scores are 100. Here are some other values for
cumulative and remaining grades:

If all four remaining the minimal passing current
        grades are cumulative grade is

          100 33.3

           90 37.3

           80 41.3

           70 45.3

           60 49.3

The last day to withdraw from class with a W is this Wednesday, 5 November, at
5 p.m.
