To be a bit more precise:

    - A note page is optional; if you don’t want one, you
    don’t have to have one.

- The note page should have an area no greater than 93.5 in2. A
    letter-size piece of paper has area 93.5 in2 (= 8.5 in × 11 in).

      - Legal-size (8.5 in × 14 in = 119 in2 > 93.5 in2) or A4
      (8.3 in × 11.7 in = 97.1 in2 > 93.5 in2) paper are too big to be note
      pages.

- Only one note page, even if the note page is smaller than letter
size. For example, if you use a 3-by-5 index card as a note page, you can
only have one card even though 93.5 in2/15 in2 = 6.2 cards would fit within
    a letter-size piece of paper.

- Hand-written notes, no electro-mechanical printing. You can use any
    language you’re comfortable with.

- Notes can be written on both sides of the paper.

- Notes can’t be shared during the test.

- Optional: notes can be turned-in with with the test, and are returned
with the test. The presence or absence of notes have no influence on test
    grading.

For example: a good note page
looks like this (except for it being about astronomy); a bad note page
looks like this (it’s not hand written).
