More precisely, an FM channel has a 200 kHz assigned bandwidth (assigned by the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S). The bandwidth needed by an
FM signal is around 50 kHz. The extra bandwidth is used to space signals to
avoid interference.
