PC lab linux.

It was pointed out to me yesterday (Tuesday, 2 July) that the g++ library in
the Linux class directory doesn't work on the dual-boot linux machines in the
labs. After some investigation, I've discovered that those machines (or at
least the ones in HH 500) are using g++ version 2.96, which is not compatible
with the object code produced by g++ version 3.1, which is what rockhopper
uses.

I've sent a message to the help desk asking for an update on the dual-boot
machines, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that. The easiest way to deal with
this problem is to telnet into rockhopper. However, I've made available a
library named g++-2.96-libsim.a, which you can use from the dual-boot machines
if you insist. The default g++-libsim.a remains compatible with 3.1, so those
of you working on rockhopper can continue to do so without change.
