  If I run my client and server on rockhopper, everything works. If I run the
  server on a cslab machine and the client on rockhopper, then the server
  cannot receive successfully.

Without looking at your code I can't say for sure, but you probably want to
review Section 3.2 in Donahoo and Calvert or Secion 5.8 in Comer and Stevens.
