   I am confused about which port numbers can be used for communication. When I
   give arbitary numbers to my client and server they work sometimes and
   sometimes they don't. Please clarify.

I'd need to know more about what you did and how your code fails before I can
say anything sensible about what might be wrong.

  those port numbers for TCP/IP client comunication?

I don't know what you mean by "port number information should a client have".
Do you mean "To what information should the client bind its local endpoint?"
Or do you mean "What remote endpoint should the client use to complete its
connection?" Or do you mean something else? Also, do you mean in general or
with respect to the project?

  number for the server?
