Rectangle level questions.

  Can you please elaborate further on what "a cycle of overlapping rectangles"
  means?

A sequence of three or more rectangles, each of which is above the previous
rectangle, and the last rectangle is above the first. If you look at the
figure illustrating the second sliding rule and move the sliding rectangle on
top of the right rectangle (instead of below it as shown in the figure), you'll
get a cycle.

  Can the same rectangle have multiple levels?

I don't see how, given the definition of level.

  In the figure illustrating sliding rule 1, the sliding rectangle is one level
  higher than the rectangle it is above. But a portion of the sliding
  rectangle remains below another rectangle causing it to be at level 0. How do
  we resolve this?

Use the second case of the level definition.
