I've made a few corrections and clarifications to assignment 1:

 1 Should you find it convenient to do so, you may assume that short rows are
   padded out on the right with space characters.

 2 Only space characters should appear in the separating column between
   adjacent columns; all other white-space characters should not appear in the
   separating column between adjacent columns. (This is a rewrite of a clumsy
   sentence).

 3 The element spec 2,1 refers to giambi in the example matrix (or, if you
    prefer, the element spec 1,2 refers to A-).
