Can we submit more than once before the deadline, or only once?
You can submit as many times as you want up to the deadline. After the
deadline you cannot submit at all. Notice this behavior is different from
previous assignments, where you could submit after the deadline if you hadn't
submitted before the deadline. No assignments will be accepted at all after
the deadline on 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, 19 December.
Is the pa4-basics.dsk the only disk we will be graded on for project 4, or
will the additional disks you mentioned also need to work completely?
pa4-basics is the only disk you have to deal with.
I am interested in seeing if my file system can properly read a disk that has
files in place (from a previous results.dsk), but not so interested that I
will mess up my project files right before they are due unless necessary.
I'll make all the pa4 disks available after the deadline - that's "after the
deadline" - for those who did the work and want the psychic reward of seeing
their operating system in action. However, for assignment 4 you only have to
deal with the pa4-basics batch disk.
Does the pa4-basics disk actually write a file -- that is, is there a way to
use print-disk-block on results.dsk to verify that, by following one's file
system manually through the print-disk-block, we can see what is supposed to
be written by the pa4 disk?
Yes; the simulator creates the file results.dsk whenever a process writes data
to the batch disk; the original batch disk is left unchanged. However, I found
using print-disk-block to poke around in results.dsk to be an absolutely last
resort debugging tool.
