MONMOUTH WOMEN’S TENNIS DROPS A PAIR OF ROAD CONTESTS

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s women’s tennis squad lost a pair of matches in Kingston, R.I., over the weekend. The Hawks lost a 4-3 decision to the University of Rhode Island on Saturday and a 6-1 contest vs. the University of Vermont on Sunday.

In Saturday’s matchup, Rhode Island’s Emily Clapham defeated Monmouth’s Kelly Phoebus, 7-6, 6-4, to give the Rams a decisive 4-2 lead with one match still in progress.

The Rams started the contest by taking the best-of-three doubles point. Gina Fay and Phoebus won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles vs. Jess Collins and Abbie Wolf-Cohen, but Rhode Island was victorious at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Fay, Lauren McCormick and Anneabeth Bailey all won for the Hawks.

On Sunday, Bailey tallied the Hawks’ lone victory with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Vermont’s Alie Taylor at No. 5 singles.

The Hawks wrapped up their fall schedule with an 8-6 record. Monmouth returns to action on April 20 as the Hawks host Long Island University in a Noon contest at the MU Tennis Complex.
