FOUR HAWKS WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYERS ADVANCE TO NJAIAW SEMINFINALS

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University had four players advance to Sunday’s semifinals at the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Tournament at Drew University.

Monmouth’s Laura Marchese and Erin Dunn qualified for the semifinals in Flight B. Marchese defeated Cladwell’s Sarina Prasad 10-0 in the first round and advanced to the semis with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Kean’s Jodi Valenti. Marchese will play Princeton’s Jessica Leutzinger on Sunday. Dunn advanced by beating Kean’s Kristen Butter, 10-5, and Montclair’s Carolyn Hess, 6-0, 6-2. Dunn will play Princeton’s Alana Benjamin in the second semifinal.

Lisa DePaolo and Gina Fay advanced to the semifinals for the Hawks in Flight C. DePaolo bested Fairleigh Dickinson’s Liz Heine, 10-0 in the first round and defeated Montclair’s Claudia Lopez, 7-6, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. Gina Fay posted a 10-1 win over Drew’s Alaine Ford and bested Montclair’s Bisia Duch, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the semis.

In Flight A, Danielle Brunelli defeated Caldwell’s Sharrell Gibson, 10-0, in the first round before bowing out in the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Analaera Duran of FDU. Lauren McCormick lost in the opening round, 10-7, but bounced back with a pair of victories to advance to the consolation finals tomorrow afternoon.
