MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY BLANKS ST. FRANCIS (N.Y.) IN WOMEN’S TENNIS

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s women’s tennis team posted a shutout as it defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) College, 9-0, Friday afternoon in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Hawks’ domination began in doubles action where Danielle Brunelli and Laura Marchese teamed up to defeat Joanneyre McNeil and Yadira Ramos, 8-0 at the No. 1 position. Anneabeth Bailey and Nicole Johnson triumphed 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Lauren McCormick and Lisa DePaolo won No. 3 doubles by a forfeit.

With a 3-0 edge after doubles, Monmouth cruised through singles action without dropping a set. Brunelli topped McNeil at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. McCormick bested Ramos at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2. Marchese scorched the Terriers’ Tracy DeMarco at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Erin Dunn posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Devicka Sahadeo at No. 4 singles. Monmouth’s Lisa DePaolo moved her season record to 10-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Denyse Lucero at No. 5 singles. Gina Fay won her match at No. 6 singles via forfeit.

The victory moved Monmouth to 7-5 on the season.

Monmouth continues action tomorrow as it participates in the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Championships.
