MONMOUTH WOMEN’S TENNIS WINS THIRD CONSECUTIVE NEC MATCH

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s women’s tennis squad ran its Northeast Conference record to 4-0 on the season with a 5-4 victory over Mount St. Mary’s at the MU Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Monmouth (6-3, 4-0 NEC) took the early lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Lauren McCormick (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional) and Lisa DePaolo (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) posted an 8-5 victory at the No. 2 doubles position while Erin Dunn (Williamstown, N.J./Pope Paul VI) and Anneabeth Bailey (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) triumphed, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

Dunn notched an impressive, 6-1, 6-0, victory over the Mountaineers’ Chris Pizzica at No. 4 singles and is now 7-2 on the season. DePaolo was triumphant for the Hawks at No. 5 singles to raise her season record to 8-1. DePaolo topped the Mount St. Mary’s Margaret Carrey, 6-3, 6-4. Gina Fay (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) defeated the Mountaineers’ Heather Whetstone at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1, to run her winning streak to seven matches.
