MONMOUTH WOMEN’S TENNIS WINS THIRD CONSECUTIVE NEC MATCH
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s women’s tennis squad ran its Northeast Conference record to 3-0 on the season with a 5-4 victory over Wagner College on Thursday night in Staten Island, N.Y.
Monmouth (5-3, 3-0 NEC) was able to win the match despite being swept in doubles action. Danielle Brunelli (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) led the Hawks charges with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Wagner’s Jenny Ludvigsen at No. 1 singles. Laura Marchese (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) registered a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. Erin Dunn (Williamstown, N.J./Pope Paul VI) notched an impressive, 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Seahawks’ Lisha Tejeda at No. 4 singles.
Lisa DePaolo (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) was triumphant for the Hawks at No. 5 singles to raise her season record to 7-1. DePaolo topped the Seahawks’ Jessica Klett, 6-0, 6-3. Gina Fay (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) defeated Wagner’s Gina Noce at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Fay has dropped just five games in her last six sets.
Monmouth returns to action Saturday as the Hawks host Mount St. Mary’s.
