MONMOUTH WOMEN’S TENNIS RUNS WINNING STREAK TO FOUR

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s women’s tennis squad won its fourth consecutive match with a 4-3 win at Marist College on Sunday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Monmouth (4-1) took the early lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Lauren McCormick (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional) and Lisa DePaolo (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles position while Erin Dunn (Williamstown, N.J./Pope Paul VI) and Anneabeth Bailey (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) triumphed, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

The key singles victories for Monmouth came from DePaolo and Danielle Brunelli (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel). Brunelli won her match over Kara Bliss at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6. Brunelli was able to storm back in the third set after falling behind 4-1. DePaolo won her match 7-6, 6-3 with the score tied at 3-3. The victory moved DePaolo’s singles record to 4-1 on the season. Gina Fay (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) tallied the final Monmouth win with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Laura Roy at No. 6 singles.

Monmouth returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Jersey City, N.J., for a 3:30 p.m. contest at St. Peter’s College.
