MONMOUTH WOMEN’S TENNIS WINS THIRD IN A ROW

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s women’s tennis squad won its third consecutive match with a 7-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson at the Monmouth University Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon. The triumph was the Hawks’ second win in as many days over an in-state rival. On Wednesday, the Hawks toppled Rider with a 5-4 victory.

Monmouth (3-1) took the early lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Erin Dunn (Williamstown, N.J./Pope Paul VI) and Anneabeth Bailey (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) blanked Marie Leonida and Tarabi Jitaboh of FDU, 8-0, in No. 2 doubles. The Hawks won No. 3 doubles due to a forfeit.

Dunn and Lisa DePaolo (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) both moved to 3-1 on the season in singles action. Dunn defeated Jitaboh, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and DePaolo topped Mona Haitani at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Danielle Brunelli (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) and Laura Marchese (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) also notched victories in singles action. In No. 1 singles, Brunelli topped Pugh in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6. Marchese beat Leonida, 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.

Monmouth returns to action Sunday as they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a 1:30 match at Marist College.
