MONMOUTH WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAM POSTS VICTORY OVER RIDER

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s women’s tennis squad improved its record to 2-1 on the season as the Hawks defeated Rider University, 5-4, at the Monmouth University Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon. For Monmouth, it was a big victory over the Broncs who returned their top four players from a 1999-2000 squad that defeated the Hawks 7-2.

Monmouth took the early lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Lauren McCormick (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional) and Lisa DePaolo (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) posted an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 doubles position while Erin Dunn (Williamstown, N.J./Pope Paul VI) and Anneabeth Bailey (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) triumphed, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.

The success for Dunn and DePaolo carried over to singles action. Dunn posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Rider’s Heather Heineman at No. 4 singles and DePaolo posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Meredith Dossin at No. 5 singles. Gina Fay (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) tallied the final Monmouth victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Brandi Plummer.
