PHILADELPHIA — The Drexel women’s basketball team defeated the Monmouth Hawks 80-69 Saturday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center behind solid point guard play from junior Steph Frysinger (York, Pa./Central York) who played 40 minutes, scoring 16 points and dishing seven assists against only one turnover while bringing the ball up against repeated Hawks pressure in the second half.

The Dragons were led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore forward Katrina Martin (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) who scored 20 points on 7-10 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Freshman guard Jessica Copskey (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) contributed 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench.  Senior forward Meghan McIntyre (Somers Point, N.J./Mainland Regional) also had nine rebounds for Drexel.

Monmouth had two double-figure scorers, Rashawnah French with 18 points and 9 rebounds and Michelle Cappadona with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Drexel was up 30-27 at halftime, only shooting 30 percent from the floor, but the Dragons shot 52 percent in the second half, outscoring Monmouth 50-42.  The Dragons outrebounded the Hawks 57-42.

The Dragons built a 20-point lead with 6:09 to go when Frysinger made a steal and drove down the court for a lay-up, putting Drexel ahead 65-45.  Backcourt pressure forced Drexel into 19 turnovers for the game and helped Monmouth cut the lead to 72-65 with 1:27 to go, but the Hawks were not able to climb any closer.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, November 20 when they travel to Hofstra University for a 7:00 p.m. tip off against the Flyin' Dutchwomen.
