Monmouth 70, Wagner 56

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Monmouth University (11-8, 6-4 NEC) earned a 70-56 victory over Wagner in a Northeast Conference matchup Wednesday
night at Boylan Gym.  The Hawks, who held Wagner to only 34.4% (22-64) shooting, cruised to victory due in part to a 16-5 run which occurred in
the final 4:22 of the contest.

The halftime score was in favor of Monmouth 30-25, as the Hawks were led by Jewonda Bright’s (Norfolk, V.A./Norview) 10 points and five
rebounds.  In the second half, Monmouth would go on to pull away by as many as 16 points as the Hawks’ offensive attack would connect on 51.9%
(14-27) of their shots. The Hawks would also win the battle of the boards, as they out-rebounded the Seahawks by a 39-34 margin.

The Hawks had four players post double figures in points for the seventh time this year.  LaToya Thompson (Orange, N.J./Orange) led the Hawks
with a game-high 17 points and five rebounds.  Michelle Cappadonna (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./ Red Bank Catholic) had 16 points, seven
rebounds, and five assists. Bright finished with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds.  Rashawnah French (Newark, N.J./East Side)
recorded 13 points and seven rebounds.  Overall, the Hawks shot 48.2% (27-56) from the field, and were successful on 85.7% (12-14) from the
free throw line.

Wagner (8-11, 6-4 NEC) was led by Meredith Kern’s 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jackie Fournier had 12 points, four rebounds,
and four assists for the Seahawks.

The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, February 2, as they face the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a Northeast Conference contest at Boylan
Gym.  Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
