Mount St. Mary’s 65 , Monmouth 59

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Monmouth University (10-8, 5-4 NEC) was defeated 65-59 by Mount St. Mary’s in a Northeast Conference contest
Thursday night at Boylan Gym.  Despite holding the Mount to only 28.4% (19-67) shooting from the field, the Hawks were unable to come up with
what would have been the fourth straight victory.

The game was an evenly matched affair throughout as Mount St. Mary’s took a 27-26 halftime lead.  However, after LaToya Thompson completed a
three-point play with 9:46 remaining in the game to knot the score at 46, the Mount would score on the next possession and never relinquish
the lead.  The Hawks were hampered by their free throw shooting down the stretch, as they could only connect on 56.3% (9-16) from the line in the
second half. The Mount St. Mary’s defense also held the Hawks field goal percentage to 31.4% shooting from the field, including 3 of 17 from
beyond the three-point arc.

The Hawks had three players record double-doubles in the game, led by Michelle Cappadona’s (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) game
high 20 points and 15 boards.  Rashawnah French (Newark, N.J./East Side) had a strong game in the paint with 12 points and 14 rebounds, and
LaToya Thompson (Orange, N.J./Orange) had 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Hawks did win the battle of the boards by a 56-51 margin.

Mount St. Mary’s was sparked by a 19 point, 23 rebound effort from Beth Foster, who led the team in both categories.  The only other player from
the Mount in double figure scoring was Myriam Baccoche who had 14 points, including 4 three-point field goals.

The Hawks will return to action on Wednesday, January 30 as they face the Wagner Seahawks in a Northeast Conference tilt at Boylan Gym.
Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
