PAIR OF MONMOUTH ATHLETES EARN NEC WEEKLY HONORS
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – A pair of Monmouth University athletes were honored by the Northeast Conference as the league announced its athletes of the week for golf and tennis on Tuesday.
Greg Mackenzie (Conestogo, Ontario/Elmira District) was recognized as the league’s Men’s Golfer of the Week and Chad Long (Duncanville, Texas/Duncanville) earned accolades as the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Mackenzie finished in seventh place at the Bucknell Invitational, carding an impressive two-day score of 148 (75-73). Mackenzie’s seventh-place showing was the best individual performance among the three NEC teams in attendance, and helped lead MU to an eight-place finish in the team standings.
Long keyed Monmouth’s 6-1 win over Rider in its season opener last Wednesday in Lawrenceville, N.J. Long beat the Broncs Chris Ulmer 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and teamed up with Andrew Katz at No. 1 doubles to triumph over Ulmer and John Phillips, 8-3.
