MONMOUTH SOCCER FALLS LATE AT ROBERT MORRIS
Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris College men's soccer sophomore forward
Jamie Dodds (Hamilton, Ontario / Sir Allen McNab) scored the game-winning
goal with 5:38 left to play Friday afternoon as the Colonials shook off
Monmouth University 3-2 at North Athletic Complex in Northeast Conference
One of two Dodds goals on the day, the Robert Morris leading scorer pounded a 25-yard left-to-right strike over the outstretched arms of Hawks’ goalkeepr Mike Erskine (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel). Dodds' other score came on his third penalty kick conversion of the season at 46:57.
Robert Morris (4-6, 3-1 NEC) fell behind at 11:04 as Monmouth forward Anthony Viscariello (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton Prep) opened the scoring with a shot past senior Colonial netminder Matt Henson (Fairfax, Va. / Lake Braddock). Viscariello also scored at 49:49 to give Monmouth (3-7, 1-3 NEC) a 2-1 lead that would not last, and had numerous chances to notch a hat trick, but Henson made increasingly brilliant saves as the clock winded down.
The Colonials' other goal came off the foot of junior midfielder Carlo Ciconte (Mississauga, Ontario / St. Martin) at 76:49 to tie the game 2-2 before Dodds came through with the game-winner. It was Ciconte's first goal of the season. Dodds now owns six goals this year. It was Dodds' second consecutive game-winning goal (the other coming Sept. 30 in a 2-1 victory at St. Francis-N.Y.), and the second straight game that Robert Morris rallied to win.
Monmouth returns to action on Sunday as they travel to Loretto, Pa. to face St. Francis. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
