TOTH, KEETON EARN NEC HONORS
Toth Named Player of the Week, Keeton Named Pitcher of the Week
West Long Branch, N.J. – Jeff Toth (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) and Glen Keeton (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) earned Northeast Conference honors as the NEC announced its weekly winners earlier today. The Hawks tallied a three-game sweep of conference foe, Mount St. Mary’s to open league play this past weekend. Monmouth took Saturday’s double-header 11-5 and 15-0, and Sunday’s finale 12-6.
Toth, the senior first baseman went 8-13, with five runs scored, two doubles, one home run and eight runs batted in the three games, en route to an impressive .615 batting average. Toth now holds the team lead with 17 RBIs.
Keeton, the sophomore right-hander, threw a 2-hit, complete game shutout in the second game of Saturday’s double-header. Keeton went 7.0 innings, allowing only two hits and no runs, while striking out 11 batters and walking none. The win was his first of the season. Keeton pitched one complete game shutout as a freshman last season as well.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, March 27 as they travel
to Rider University for a 3:00 p.m. game with the Broncs. Monmouth
returns home for what has become the home opener against LaSalle on Wednesday
