MONMOUTH BLANKS SIENA, 1-0, IN FIELD HOCKEY

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University got back on the winning track as the Hawks registered a 1-0 victory over Siena College in women’s collegiate field hockey action Sunday afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y.

After a scoreless first half and with 10:31 remaining second half, Kristen Haberthur scored the game’s lone goal on an assist from Kellie Nurko for the game-winner.

Brittany Kershaw played the entire contest in goal for the Hawks to pick up her third career shutout. She had three saves in the contest.

The Hawks outshot the Saints 10-7 and held a 14-7 advantage in penalty corners.

The victory moved Monmouth to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the Northeast Conference action. Siena fell to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in NEC play.

Monmouth returns action on Wednesday, October 10 as the Hawks host Rider University in a 4 p.m. contest at the MU Field Hockey Park.
