HAWKS FIELD HOCKEY DROPS OVERTIME CONTEST VS. RIDER
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Rider University in Northeast Conference field hockey action Wednesday evening in Lawrenceville, N.J.
For Monnmouth (5-5, 4-3 NEC), it marked the fifth overtime contest of the season and the Hawks are now 2-3 when extra time is needed.
After a scoreless first half, the Broncs (6-3, 5-1 NEC) broke the seal as Maddy Boulden gave Rider a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the second half on an assist from Janette Freeberg.
With 11 minutes left in regulation, Kellie Nurko scored the equalizer on an assist from Gina Chico.
The game-winning goal came just 19 seconds into the overtime as Katie Sebastian took a pass from Karen Pettyjohn and chipped the ball.
Monmouth returns to action on Sunday as the Hawks travel to Loudonville,
N.Y., for a Noon contest at Siena College.
