HAWKS FIELD HOCKEY DEFEATS SIENA
West Long Branch, N.J. – Monmouth University’s offense started
to pick up steam in the second half and led the Hawks to a 3-1 victory
over
Siena College in field hockey action at the MU Field Hockey Park Saturday
afternoon.
After going the first 25 minutes without a score, Monmouth’s Gina Chico broke the seal on an assist by Kellie Nurko to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead with 9:51 remaining in the first half. Nurko centered the ball from the right flank and the ball found its way to Chico who directed it into the back of the goal.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead as Megan Kenney made a perfect pass to Kristen Haberthur. Haberthur blasted a pass towards the goal that Nurko chipped past the Saints’ goaltender.
Siena was able to cut the lead to 2-1 as Lacee Iselo beat a pair of defenders and scored an unassisted goal with 13:52 remaining in the game.
The Hawks put to rest and Siena comeback attempts with 48 seconds left as Kristen Hulmes notched an unassisted goal.
Monmouth outshot Siena, 22-3, for the game.
Monmouth returns to action on Tuesday as the Hawks travel to Fairfield, Conn., for a 4 p.m. contest at Sacred Heart
