MONMOUTH FIELD HOCKEY LOSES OVERTIME CONTEST VS. BUCKNELL
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 sudden death overtime decision in women’s collegiate field hockey vs. Bucknell University Sunday afternoon at the MU Field Hockey Park.
The Bison’s Annie Hunsicker ended the contest as she tallied a goal on an assist from Amy Marvel with 8:04 left in overtime.
Bucknell took control of the contest early on as Dena Ebert tallied a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Ebert’s first goal was unassisted 7:49 into the contest. Just over two minutes later, Ebert scored again on an assist from Lauren Campbell.
The Hawks tightened the defense the remainder of the first half and Bucknell went into the intermission with a 2-0 advantage.
Monmouth stormed back in the second half as Gina Chico scored 2:59 into the second stanza to cut the lead in half. With 23:28 remaining in regulation, Kellie Nurko scored to tie the game at 2-2.
The tie would be short-lived as Bucknell’s Lisa Bingaman scored an unassisted goal less than three minutes later, staking the Bison to a 3-2 lead with 20:40 left in the second half.
Chico sent the contest into overtime as she converted on the lone penalty stroke of the contest at the 10:38 mark.
Bucknell outshot Monmouth 18-10 in the contest.
Monmouth returns to action on Friday, September 14 as the Hawks travel to Maryland for a 4 p.m. contest at Towson.
