Reflexiones, ensayos sobre escritoras hispanoamericanas contemporáneas, editor Dr. Priscilla Gac-Artigas, 2 vols, New Jersey: Ediciones Nuevo Espacio, Academia Collection, 2002.
Monmouth University professor Priscilla Gac-Artigas has assembled two volumes of essays that explore Spanish American women writers in the last two decades. Besides her own entries, the selection features essays by more than 20 scholars from the USA, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Argentina and Canada, among others. In two to seven pages, the papers introduce each author with a brief but complete bio-bibliography. In some cases, they include interviews with the writers or excerpts from their creative work, such as the poems “Managua” by Claribel Alegría (Nicaragua) and “Muchacha de Caravelí” (“Girl of Caravelí”) by Cecilia Bustamante (Perú). The topics within the essays are as rich and diverse as the list of writers. From established authors like Rosario Ferré (Puerto Rico) and Isabel Allende (Chile) to emerging writers like Odette Alonso (Cuba), Gisela Kozak (Venezuela), and Sandra Cisneros (United States), the essays in these collections illuminate and open new research perspectives. This project was conceived not only as a printed collection but also as an internet library for scholars and advanced students of Spanish American Literature. Highly recommended for academic and public libraries with strong collections of Latin American women writers.”
