President Rebecca StaffordA message from President Rebecca Stafford:

One of the comments I often hear is that the constraints of time and distance must be considered carefully when planning a graduate school program. To serve graduate students, many of whom are professionals with full-time careers, we must become more convenient while we maintain our high standards for graduate education.

Monmouth on the Web is a new initiative that has been under development for more than a year. Our faculty has forged new ground and experimented with new technology to develop courses and course work appropriate for the World Wide Web. As our own campus continues to expand its use of electronic media and access to the Web, our academic departments are venturing onto the Web to project elements of a Monmouth graduate education into students’ homes and offices and portable computers wherever they may be.

Our inaugural Web-based course offering is formal acknowledgment that we believe electronic learning for Monmouth University has arrived. Education online, we have found, provides an excellent learning environment and can actually enhance communication between students and their professors. This success is surely due in part to our commitment to mirror the campus experience of our students. Starting Fall 1998, the Monmouth Online "virtual" campus also provides academic advising, career counseling, an electronic bookstore, access to our Guggenheim Library, and services such as online registration, bill payment, and financial aid processing.

I invite you to join us as we begin what is sure to be another hallmark in the growth of Monmouth University. Each forthcoming semester, we plan to offer more and more courses through Monmouth on the Web.
