What does this study involve?

This research examines the factors that contribute to an individual’s transition into being single following the break-up of a romantic relationship.  To help gain further insights into this topic, participants will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires about their self and relationships, engage in some activities, and complete brief follow-up questionnaires.

---

Who is eligible to participate?

Due to the nature of the study, we need individuals who are currently single, and have experienced the break-up of a romantic relationship (dating or married) in the past 6 months.  Participation in this study is voluntary.

You MUST BE a MINIMUM of 18 Years old.

---

What does this involve?

The study consists of three parts.

Part 1. Come to the Close Relationship Research Laboratory at Monmouth University (directions are provided below) to complete a series of questionnaires (these take approximately 20 minutes to complete)

Part 2. Engage in a series of activities (you get to choose them) over a 2 week period. (The choice of activities will be up to you, but in all cases they will be everyday activities you find enjoyable.)

Part 3. Return to the Close Relationship Research Laboratory at Monmouth University to complete a series of questionnaires (these take approximately 15 minutes to complete)

Important Note: The data you provide will be recorded anonymously and your participation and anything you say during the session will be held in the strictest confidence.  By University regulations, your responses will be kept separate from your name. This way no one will know that the answers/responses you provide are yours.

---

How much will I be paid?

For completing the entire study you will receive 50 dollars cash.  After you complete Part 1, you will receive 10 dollars (for about 20 minutes of your time). Completing the remaining parts will earn you 40 dollars cash (in total you will get 50 dollars for about 40 minutes of your time and doing fun activities).  In addition to receiving cash, you will also learn about the research process, and we will provide you with a summary of the study’s overall results if you are interested.

---

Are there any risks to participating?

Anticipated risks for participating in the study are minimal.  It is possible that participating in this study may make some people uncomfortable, and some may experience fatigue from answering questions.  There is also a slight chance of getting injured during an activity you choose in part two of the study.
