Glosoft is a research team that has been studying
issues associated with globally distributed software development teams
since 2005. It consists of researchers from five universities who
have combined their expertise and their graduate students to conduct
their research in this area.
We have been working with three major Fortune 500 companies to carry
out this research which is uses a multi-method approach to obtain
data from the global teams being studied. A key aspect of this research
is to understand the problems that affect the globally distributed
teams and thereby to develop computer support that will aid the team’s
collaboration and communication.
Two of the key areas that the Glosoft team is investigating
are the impact of cultural differences on team performance and the
impact of different leadership activities on the team. We are also
beginning to examine the role of social networks in information
exchange and team member support.
