Math 117 -Quantitative Analysis I
Study Guide - Quiz # 3
-
Application problem -- similiar to lab 3 (but smaller in size) and similar
to p. 238 # 57
-
p. 254 # 15,16 (2 by 2 system) -- you will have to use the Gauss Elimination
method. It's not just the answer that I'm interested in -- it's the method
for finding the answer!
-
Construct the augmented matrix from a system of equations, and, given an
augmented matrix, write the system of equations. p. 254 # 3-6
-
Read off answers from final tableau and identify solutions and when system
doesn't have solutions p.254 # 7 - 10, 27 - 30
-
For a given augmented matrix -- perform the necessary steps to "get the
first column in order" i.e. 1 in the upper
left hand corner and 0's elsewhere in the first column. Problem similar
to example 1 on p.243 -- ONLY the first column.
-
Solve a system of equations using inverse matrices, as in p. 270 # 37,
39. You will be expected to use Excel's Minverse and mmult functions
to do this, and be able to interpret the result.
-
Setup and solve a Leontief matrix for a given problem, similar to the wood-coal-gas
problem described in notes # 10 or p. 283 # 13, 14. You will need
to use Excel to solve this problem.
-
Be able to manipulate linear inequalities in one variable. Problems like
1-15 on p. 302.
